The article presents the experience of the comparative analysis of the performance of the Sunday All–Night Vigil, on the one hand, according to the Typicon and, on the other hand, in its modern well-established edition. The author consistently examines the key structural elements of the "ideal" Sunday All- Night Vigil set out in the Typicon, pointing out the direct differences that occur in the practice common in the Orthodox Church nowadays. Summing up the revealed discrepancies between the statutory and the actual types of worship, the author concludes that although from the semantic symbolism's point of view gradually forming over the centuries, the Sunday All-N ight Vigil in the modern version is a direct projection of the "ideal" form, nevertheless many utilitarian features of worship have lost their original meaning and can be interpreted purely allegorically.
