Annotation
The article is devoted to the history and description of the award and corporate symbols of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IPOS) from its inception in 1882 to 2024. Having united in its ranks outstanding figures of science and culture, government and public figures, diplomats, clergy and simply caring and talented people, the IOPS created its own system of rewarding its members, decorated with original and recognizable symbols. The basis for almost all the signs discussed in the article was the historical sign of the IOPS, Highly approved by the Russian Emperor Alexander III and a special Determination of the Holy Synod. The article describes the memorial signs and medals of both the historical IOPS and its successor — the International Public Organization “Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society”. At the same time, in addition to the signs issued by the IOPS, the signs of the regional branches of the IOPS, known to the author, are also described, which are based on commemorative medals made on the initiative of the Cyprus branch of the IOPS. Commemorative and anniversary badges and medals of the IOPS have become not only a noticeable phenomenon in Russian faleristics, heraldry and numismatics, but also made a significant contribution to modern decorative and applied art, revealing to the world a number of remarkable award, commemorative and membership badges made at a very high artistic level.
