This article presents the analysis of the situation in Kostroma Theological Seminary in the first years after the transformation carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Charter for theological seminaries of 1867. The theological and educational institutions of the Kostroma Diocese were determined to be reformed in the first year of transformation, in connection with which the Director of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office at the Holy Synod N. A. Sergievsky was sent to audit them. In 1868, Kostroma Seminary was subjected to a second audit, which was conducted by the Educational Committee auditor I. A. Nenarokomov. The audits’ materials which are kept in the fund of the Educational Committee of the Russian State Historical Archive, are the most valuable source and are being introduced into the scientific circulation for the first time. The purpose of the study is to indicate the main features of the secondary theological education reform of the year 1867 by the example of a specific theological school.
