The article is devoted to the problems of speech culture in the modern language reality and the function that speech culture performs in the professional activity of a teacher of a higher educational institution. The concept of "speech culture" and its multidimensional nature, problems arising in modern language practice, and ways to overcome them are considered. The role of eloquence in the professional activity of a teacher.
