Annotation
This article is devoted to Patriarch Nikon (an outstanding and unique personality for Russian Church history) and his path to the adoption of the great schema — a full and per-fect rank of monastic vows admission and the highest form of renunciation of the worldly things. Patriarch Nikon is the only Patriarch who accepted the schema and sources testify to his scheming, but historiography has not paid deserved attention to this. This fact has not received sufficient coverage in research, and therefore is of great interest both to biographers and historians, and to the average reader, due to the exceptionally impor-tant role of the Patriarch in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian State. The thorny path of the Patriarch, who put a lot of effort into the organization of the Russian Church, was crowned with his acceptance of the great schema. This article is devo- ted both to this issue and to the location of his scheme after his repose. In the course of the study, original handwritten sources of the indicated period and sub-ject matter, as well as evidence from historians, were studied.
